When repairing the floorboards of a car, especially where the pedals mount, make sure you use high-quality Gorilla tape, and not that crappy duct tape.

Pro tip: you can also use gorilla tape to repair failed hoses, build tread back up on worn out tires, restore compression to an old engine, fix exhaust leaks, and repair rust holes!

It has no title, I will provide a bill of sale. There is a letter, related to a previous sale in 2004, that had the VIN number.

What a mess.

True story: I made a fender out of Gorilla tape about a month and a half ago. I’ve put 2,000 miles on the car since, and it’s still holding strong.

My Defender has gorilla tape on its roof right now, and has done since I got it. It’s apparently the military’s go-to anti-rainwater-ingress-through-age-corroded-sealant fix.

Amazingly it does actually work faintly well for that type of thing.

The other day I saw a super clean defender and decided I need one. Went to look up prices, cheapest I saw was around $45k freedom units, rough condition, 200tdi. V8’s were all $65k+. It was a very sad day, I remember when they could be found around $20k.

That’s a lot of freedom units. I know you were a Rover tech, could you build one? I’m not sure about the legality of such things over there, but I can send parts!

This is acceptable. My F150 has Gorilla tape around the top of the windshield for this reason.

I could build one, and have done for others, even know where I could find some frames, engines, and VINs/titles, but honestly the thought isn’t appealing. Most of the parts are so terrible that building them isn’t fun because I’m constantly worried what’s going to fail right away. Not only that but bulkheads are getting to be incredibly difficult to find in useable condition. Not to mention panel fitment (I’m looking at you, doors!) is usually a nightmare.

Yeh I know. I’ve just decided to dump a load of cash into the Series Rover, nuts and bolts, galvanised chassis et al, knowing full well that once it’s all finished and painted something will go tits up. But ya know, Land Rovers; It’s what they do.

Also good bulkheads are increasingly hard to find over here. There is a company I know of who will supply a galvanised Series bulkhead for £900, a worthy investment? Probably not. But the perishable parts are seemingly starting to dry up, albeit slowly.

Yours sounds like it will be real nice when done. Here’s hoping for minimal issues!

I could probably fabricate my own bulkhead and most any of the other perishable metal parts, but they all add yet another layer of work, making it even less fun.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy fab work and building, but on a rover the effort/reward ratio is heavily skewed. I would rather just buy a halfway acceptable, sort of running and driving example.

I love the stupid things just as much as I hate them.

Just fiberglass patch the shit out of it . No one ever checks under the carpet anyhow. Now if you don’t have a carpet......

This is what real men use. man.
